T-Mobile has awarded a $48,000 Hometown Grant to Smithfield to fund repairs to Windsor Castle Park’s footbridge by Smithfield Station.
T-Mobile announced the grant on Dec. 12. The town will hold a ceremonial check presentation at the Christmas Farmers Market on Dec. 16 at 10:30 a.m. in the Bank of Southside Virginia parking lot where the seasonal market is held.
“We are truly grateful to T-Mobile for helping us complete these much-needed repairs in Windsor Castle Park,” said Town Manager Michael Stallings. “It ensures that our residents are able to safely enjoy the park for years to come.”
Repairs to the bridge are already underway. Smithfield’s Town Council allocated just over $310,000 to the project earlier this year from its share of federal COVID-19 pandemic relief funds the town received in 2021 from the American Rescue Plan Act, or ARPA.
According to Stallings, the work is on track to be completed by the end of January. The T-Mobile grant will fund repairs to additional sections of the bridge that would otherwise not have been funded under the original contract, he said.
