Man arrested on attempted burglary to commit murder in Carrollton shooting

Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged 56-year-old Gregory Davis in a shooting incident that occurred on the morning of Oct. 23, 2023, at 7:56 a.m., according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.
“Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the 2100 block of Victoria Court in Carrollton regarding a shooting that had just occurred,” the release read. “A female caller said she heard an unknown male at her front door attempting to gain entry. The resident informed the male that she is calling 911, and as she is calling 911, the male began firing into the door. A bullet strikes her in the lower leg as the homeowner is fleeing to the rear of the home. The homeowner was able to obtain a brief description of the gunman, and based on that description, deputies responded and were able to locate and take into custody 56-year-old Gregory Davis, who also resides in the 2100 block of Victoria Court. At the time Davis was taken into custody, a firearm was recovered.”
Davis was taken before a magistrate and is held with no bond at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail. He is being charged with the following Violations:
18.2-53.1 Use of a Firearm
18.2-91 Attempt Burglary to Commit Murder
18.2-279 Shooting into an occupied dwelling (2 counts)
18.2-51.21 Malicious Wounding
18.2-216 Attempt Murder 2nd Degree
