After earning its first win in nearly four years via a home-opening blowout victory on Aug. 31, Windsor High School’s varsity football team wasted no time in notching another “W.”

The Dukes pushed their record above .500 this season with a 34-23 road win over Middlesex High School on Friday, Sept. 8.

“I think we kind of outlasted them towards the end of the game because of our conditioning,” Windsor Head Coach Benjamin DuBois said.

The Dukes were tied with the Chargers 15-15 at halftime but then pulled away to establish a 34-15 lead. Middlesex was able to return a kickoff for a touchdown, but DuBois noted that the game was in hand at that point.

Another factor he cited as helping decide the outcome of the game was the reality of his players starting to come together, finding a team chemistry.

“I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself, but I will say that they’re starting to bond together,” he said. “They help each other out, so it’s fun to watch.”

Windsor sophomore running back Javion Collins ran for 219 yards and two touchdowns against the Chargers. Dukes senior wideout Jamari King ran for 109 yards and a score, sophomore quarterback Jeremy King ran for around 70 yards, and sophomore running back Carl Powell ran for a touchdown.

“We ran for close to 400 yards,” DuBois said.

Additionally, Jeremy King threw a touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Fleetwood Turner.

The Dukes (2-1) were set to visit Northampton High School on Friday, Sept. 15, and they will return home the following week to host Franklin High School on Friday, Sept. 22, at 7 p.m.
