Blackwater Regional Library’s Summer Reading Program a big success in Windsor

Blackwater Regional Library’s Summer Reading Program has led to significantly increased engagement at the library’s Windsor branch this year.
“Our Summer Reading Program has been a huge success thus far,” BRL Windsor Branch Senior Library Assistant Melody L. Ranck said. “Our circulation has increased significantly over the past month, and patrons are thoroughly enjoying attending programs and entering in for prize drawings at the Windsor branch.”
On Tuesday, July 25, the reading program featured Aspen Black, the Singing Cowgirl, in a presentation at Windsor High School called “Sing All Together Now.”
Later that day the SRP shifted to the Windsor Library where Aspen taught participants how to play an instrument.
“Our events with Aspen Black went exceptionally well yesterday,” Ranck said in a Wednesday, July 26, interview. “Attendees enjoyed singing along with the Singing Cowgirl, and quite a few patrons proceeded to join us for Aspen’s ‘Play All Together Now’ event, where we all learned to play ukuleles. Almost all of our participants never played the instrument before but were able to play up to five songs on the ukulele after the program.”
On July 18, the Summer Reading Program featured Kingry the Magician. As noted at KingryMagic.com, John Kingry has entertained audiences of all ages with his magic in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Suffolk, Williamsburg, Richmond, the Outer Banks and the Eastern Shore for more than 30 years.
At the July 18 event, “everyone had a wonderful time learning all about magic and illusion with Kingry,” Ranck said.
The SRP has a celebratory event coming up that it has highlighted in recent weeks.
“We are looking forward to our end-of-summer reading celebration on Awards Day on Aug. 1,” Ranck said. “Stop by to celebrate with us and pick up your free book and snow cone at the library.”
The Awards Day event is set to begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1, and the Windsor Library is located at 18 Duke St. in Windsor.
