Isle of Wight County sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Carrsville man and a Suffolk woman after seizing over 400 grams of a fentanyl-heroin mixture and firearms from a Carrsville residence.

Deputies arrested 33-year-old Demetris Daniels at his home on Holly Run Drive on June 16, charging him with multiple felonies, including intent to distribute narcotics, conspiracy and possessing a firearm while in possession of drugs.

On June 22, police arrested 27-year-old Haley Wright of Suffolk, who is charged as an accessory.

The Sheriff’s Office alleges Daniels to be the sergeant at arms of the Wheels of Soul outlaw motorcycle gang. Deputies previously arrested 36-year-old Ronald Devon Matthews at the same Carrsville residence in 2021.

Matthews, who was sentenced in February to more than six years in federal prison for illegally possessing 14 firearms and over 2,000 rounds of ammunition, is also a “known member” of Wheels of Soul, according to U.S. District Court documents.

Outlaw motorcycle gangs, according to the U.S. Department of Justice website, are organizations whose members use their motorcycle clubs as conduits for violent crime, weapons trafficking and drug trafficking.

It was the arrest and conviction of Matthews that led investigators to Daniels, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

Deputies executed three separate search warrants of Daniels’ residence in cooperation with the Meherrin Drug Task Force, the Virginia Beach Police Department, Virginia State Police and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The original search warrant was for narcotics and related items. That search, according to the news release, led investigators to search for firearms and ammunition. Deputies say the two searches revealed criminal gang paraphernalia leading to the third and final search.

The 400-plus gram fentanyl-heroin mixture has a street value of approximately $80,000, according to the news release.

The last two overdose deaths in Isle of Wight County, according to the Sheriff’s Office, have been from fentanyl poisoning.

The Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office “thanks our law enforcement partners who help keep violent gang members, illegal firearms, and deadly drugs off the streets of our county,” states the news release.
