Paving work on a Windsor segment of U.S. Route 258 took place this week in one lane and will resume next week in the other lane.
In a Thursday, April 6, email interview, Virginia Department of Transportation Senior Communications Specialist Kelly Alvord said, “Our paving crews did start work yesterday morning and continued today on a two-mile segment of the southbound lane of Route 258 to mill and replace the asphalt.”
She noted that crews were working on the Windsor segment of U.S. 258 beginning at the railroad tracks, just off the intersection of U.S. Route 460, traveling southward on U.S. 258.
“During the work, there will be a single-lane closure in place with flaggers who alternate bi-directional traffic along Route 258,” she said.
She added that crews expected to complete the paving in the southbound lane Thursday.
“Similar work will begin on the northbound lane on that same stretch as early as next Wednesday and is currently estimated to span two days,” she said, adding that schedules are subject to change based on weather and other factors.
She stated that flagging crews will be managing traffic flow to reduce possible delays for motorists traveling through the intersection of U.S. 258 and U.S. 460, since an alternate detour route for U.S. 258 is not feasible in that area.
“As a reminder, motorists are advised to not stop their vehicle at any point directly on the railroad tracks,” Alvord said.
