Lady Dukes defeat Northeastern, tie Camden

On Saturday, the Lady Dukes took part in the Jazmine Foreman Memorial Scholarship Tournament at Grassfield High School. In the first game, the Lady Dukes took on the Northeastern High School Lady Eagles of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, defeating them 9-3.

The Lady Dukes jumped out early to a 4-0 lead with Alyssa Funai, Cameron Pagan, and Madison O’Brien picking up RBIs. The Dukes added 5 runs in the top of the sixth inning.

The Lady Dukes were led by Junior pitcher Edythe Carr, who went 5 innings giving up 3 runs, 5 hits, and 1 walk while striking out 5 Lady Eagles. Senior pitcher E.J. Bankson came in from the bullpen to pitch the final two innings. Bankson surrendered 1 hit and struck out 4.

In the second game, the Lady Dukes faced the Camden County Lady Bruins from Camden, North Carolina. The Lady Dukes and the Lady Bruins played to a 2-2 tie, as play was suspended after the second inning.

The Lady Dukes took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Kayce Gray lead off home run. The Lady Bruins scored 2 runs in the top of the third. The Lady Dukes scored a run in the bottom of the 6th inning on a Funai sacrifice fly, scoring Gray.

The Lady Dukes called on Bankson to face the potent Lady Bruins lineup. Bankson gave up 2 hits, 2 unearned runs, and struck out 6.

With the win and tie on Saturday, the Lady Dukes moved into first place in the Class 1 Region A standings.
