Windsor High School’s varsity girls tennis team won the Tri-Rivers District Tournament on Wednesday, May 11, and also drew top individual district honors.

The Lady Dukes, who finished the regular season 11-3 overall, defeated Appomattox Regional Governor’s School 5-0 to become the district tournament champions.

Windsor senior Alivia Garris was named 2022 Tri-Rivers District Girls Tennis Player of the Year, and Windsor’s Sherry Garris was named 2022 Tri-Rivers District Girls Tennis Coach of the Year.

Both Alivia Garris and sophomore Jenna Garris made the all-district first team.

Windsor was well represented at the Tri-Rivers District outdoor track and field meet May 11 at Sussex Central High School, with sophomore Keaera Kea-Towns, sophomore Zimare Pearson and freshman Caden Pierce earning first-place finishes.

Kea-Towns placed first in the girls triple jump as well as second in the girls long jump.

Also standing out for the Windsor girls team was senior Chelsey Brown, who took third in the girls discus.

Leading the Windsor boys team was Pearson, who earned first in the boys long jump and second in the boys triple jump, and Pierce, who placed first in the boys 3,200-meter run and third in the boys 1,600-meter run.

Junior DonTavious Hayslett was third in the boys long jump and fifth in the boys 100-meter dash.

Junior Quincy Wellons earned third place in the boys 300-meter hurdles.

In the boys 110-meter hurdles and the boys 300 hurdles, Jamari King placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

Windsor’s boys 4-by-100-meter relay team, which featured Hayslett, junior Isaiah Seaborne, Wellons and Pearson, placed fifth.

The varsity girls and boys soccer teams for Windsor struggled May 11, with the girls falling 8-0 to host Jamestown High School and the boys falling 5-0 to visiting Southampton High School.
