Most voters in Isle of Wight County — and statewide — chose Republican Glenn Youngkin as their preferred candidate in Virginia’s governor’s race.

According to unofficial results the Virginia Department of Elections published online the evening of Nov. 2, Youngkin was leading his Democratic challenger, former governor Terry McAuliffe, with just over 51% of the roughly 3 million gubernatorial votes cast statewide as of 11 p.m., with 222 of the state’s 2,855 polling precincts having yet to report results.

According to the Virginia Department of Elections, absentee ballots that were mailed may be accepted until noon on Nov. 5. Final election results are set to be certified on Nov. 15.

McAuliffe’s share of the votes stood at 47.9% as of 11 p.m., with Liberation candidate Princess Blanding and write-ins each taking less than 1% of the total.

Youngkin won Isle of Wight with just over 64% of the 18,577 gubernatorial votes cast county-wide, according to unofficial results Isle of Wight County’s Registrar’s Office released. McAuliffe took 35% of the county-wide vote, with Blanding and write-ins each accounting for less than 1% of the total.

Republican Winsome Sears also secured 64% of Isle of Wight’s 18,000-plus votes in the lieutenant governor race, her Democratic challenger, Hala Ayala having won the remaining 35%. Statewide, Sears had received 51.4% of the vote as of 11 p.m., with Ayala at just under 48.5% and write-ins accounting for less than 1%.

Republican Attorney General candidate Jason S. Miyares also won 64% of the Isle of Wight vote in the race against incumbent Democratic Attorney General Mark Herring. Statewide, Miyares had received 51% of the vote as of 11 p.m., Herring, just under 49%. Write-in votes accounted for less than 1% of the statewide and county-wide totals in the attorney general race.
