A section of Foursquare Road (Route 620) in Isle of Wight County is currently closed due to a car accident involving an electrical pole.
According to a message sent out over the county’s IW Alert system, the accident occurred near the road’s intersection with Comet Road a few miles southwest of Smithfield. The alert urges county residents to avoid the area while power crews correct the problem. Repairs could take several hours.
Dominion Energy’s online power outage map indicates between one and 50 residents in the vicinity of the accident may be without power. Community Electric Cooperative’s outage map indicates no loss of electricity among Isle of Wight residents.
Virginia State Police are working the scene. According to Sgt. Michelle Anaya, spokeswoman for the VSP, a single-vehicle accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. when said vehicle struck a phone pole.
