ISLE OF WIGHT

Isle of Wight County has hired Patrick “Pat” Humphries as its new chief of emergency services.

Humphries spent the majority of his emergency services career with the city of Virginia Beach, where he rose through the ranks to battalion chief prior to his retirement. However, he has also served in Isle of Wight County as a part-time paramedic since 1999.

Most recently, Humphries has been employed as a regional manager with Honeywell Corporation, where he has managed the distribution of personal protective equipment for public safety personnel in a region encompassing six states.

Humphries holds a bachelor’s degree in fire science and is also a graduate of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program. He is also a certified paramedic, holds the Chief Fire Officer Designation and possesses numerous state emergency management and fire service certifications.

Humphries will begin his employment with Isle of Wight County on March 16. He succeeds Jeff Terwilliger, the county’s previous chief, who left his employment with Isle of Wight County in September 2019 to take a new position in California.
