A former dance instructor has returned to town and already recycled her studio into Windsor Events, a space that’s available for everything from baby showers and children’s parties to wedding receptions and yoga.

Rhonda Demsko Ostman said she had the school for about 23 years, but for personal reasons decided to close. Moving back to the region — she actually lives in Hampton with her husband — Ostman desired to continue working. Retirement’s not for her, and decided on reusing the site.

“No one wanted the space,” Ostman said on why she reclaimed the site. Too much time had passed to re-start the dance classes, which is why she’s found a new use for the place. “It’s too awesome not to use.”

Inside, the mirrors and dance barres remain. The ceilings are even large enough that a bounce house could be inflated for children’s parties. She’s also gone so far as to buy machines that make cotton candy, popcorn and sno-cones.

A microphone has been built into the wall, which can be used for karaoke, another activity that Ostman said she’s thinking about doing.

“Anything I can do to bring fresh things to county,” said Ostman. “This is my dream, my life. I want to be a blessing to the community.”

Overseeing the place as manager (and yoga instructor) is Wendy Roderick, who was with Ostman when she had the dance studio.

“She’s been with me for 25 years and is a perfect fit,” said Ostman about Roderick. “She knows everyone. This is like her second home.”

Ostman’s hope is that people will feel comfortable to attend activities or plan events in which they can even bring their children, such as birthdays.

“If I can make a difference in one child’s life, this will be worth it,” she said. Ostman recalled that when she had the studio, residents of the former Zuni Presbyterian Home would come there for movement exercises as a way to stay limber. Those times for her were emotional and satisfying moments.

Already at the site an activity is planned, a paint night from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30. In fact, she said, there have also been several bookings, including the Windsor High School Class of 2009’s 10-year reunion. Hosting fundraisers, such as indoor yard sales, are also an option.

“Who knows where it’s going,” she said. “I’m excited!”

“Come and have fun,” said Ostman.
