The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries received national honors at the Association for Conservation Information, Inc. conference last week in Springfield, Missouri. The national conference, which had over 300 attendees this year, recognized the best in communication efforts across the nation. With all 50 states represented, DGIF was elated to be among the winners.
DGIF received second place for Graphics: Advertising/Display for their re-branding and logo change effort in 2017. Late last summer, the Department underwent an agency re-branding effort that included a logo change, internal communication re-branding and the creation of an agency brand guide. A “brand guide” is a document containing the rules and guidelines for the structure, design, and general overall look-and-feel of all of our DGIF collateral. Developing a consistent brand starts with creating a brand (style) guide. A brand guide helps all staff stay on the same page, and present a unified vision of the brand to the public.
Brands, logos and products develop deep connections and associations with people, so agencies don’t just change them for the sake of novelty. The old DGIF logo and design was beginning to feel not reflective of the community, and they thought they could make it better. While the original logo highlighted most of what DGIF is about — wildlife, game, and fisheries– the community had noticed the many different versions. The new logo is contemporary and brighter, yet still includes the same aspects of the old logo. They were even able to highlight the majestic peregrine falcon. DGIF’s modern, new logo strikes a balance between recognition and versatility and we could not be more excited to have received this award highlighting our efforts.
