Earlier this past week on Wednesday, June 6, friends of mine were involved in a hit-and-run accident along 58 with a tractor-trailer, heading eastbound just before the Duck Thru. The tractor trailer who was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic ended up pushing them off the road, totaling their vehicle.

Incidents along 58 involving tractor-trailers seems to be increasing rapidly. The speed limit along this route ranges from about 55 mph to 60 mph, with tractor-trailers speeding past the average driver in such a rush to get to their destination. Wavy 10 News did a feature on this exact issue back on March 5, 2018 (Dixon*) and yet still nothing is being done. How many accidents or deaths need to occur before something is done to change this very dangerous route?

In the light of these dangerous conditions, we as a community should propose something to be done to make it safer for all of us on the road! Whether it be a heavier police presence along the route, radars reminding the drivers to slow down or even additional safety rails along the route to keep both the tractor trailers and other drivers from driving off the road and into the ditches, we need to start somewhere.
