The Windsor Wonderland event that featured the town’s Christmas parade and market on Saturday, Dec. 7, drew a significant number of participants and attendees and evoked highly positive reviews from organizers and citizens alike.

“I have not had anyone that I have been in contact with either personally or on social media have anything to say except good things,” Windsor Mayor George Stubbs said at the Windsor Town Council’s Dec. 10 meeting. “We have one lady that lives on North Court Street that personally sent me a message and said, ‘It’s the best parade that Windsor’s ever had.’ So I consider that a success and want to thank everyone that was involved again.”

Stubbs specifically highlighted the efforts of Windsor Town Manager William Saunders, the Town of Windsor Events Committee, Windsor Police Chief Rodney “Dan” Riddle and all of his officers, and auxiliary Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

“They did an outstanding job,” Stubbs said. “We had a safe parade. No one got injured, no one that has been reported to me.”

The mayor noted that there were 42 participants registered for the parade, and there were 30 vendors set up at the Windsor Town Center for the market.

Reflecting on the Windsor Wonderland event, Saunders said, “It was a lot of work (by) a small number of people, but we were beyond pleased with the outcome. People had a great time. It was well received, everything happened safely, and I just can’t thank the folks that had a hand in putting that together enough. It was a great event for the town of Windsor.”

Windsor Town Clerk Kelly N. Kuhns said, “The Town of Windsor Christmas Parade was a huge success thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Town of Windsor Events Committee. We would like to give a special thanks to the market vendors, parade participants and volunteers. Without them, the parade would not have been such a booming success. We look forward to presenting another phenomenal parade in 2025.”

Danielle Craig, who is a member of the Events Committee, shared the list of parade participants that won awards:

  • Best Animal Unit: Wyoming Pony Express;
  • Best Float: Community Electric;
  • Best Performance Unit: Studio 37;
  • Best Walking Unit: Newport News Police Pipes and Drums;
  • Best Vehicle: Bethlehem Ruritan Club; and
  • People’s Choice: Isle of Wight Academy Majorettes.

Trophies were made available to the winners at Windsor Town Hall.

The Windsor Christmas Parade and Market will continue to be held annually on the first Saturday of December. Craig encouraged citizens to circle Saturday, Dec. 6, on their calendars for 2025 and come out to enjoy the event.
