The Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man connected with an early Thursday morning incident. According to a media release, a passerby reported seeing individuals smashing the glass door of a Citgo at 19417 Brewers Neck Blvd. Deputies arrived at the scene to find merchandise scattered outside the smashed door. The witness described the suspect’s vehicle, and after a brief search, deputies located the vehicle at a BP station at 1600 Bridge Rd. in Suffolk.

Two suspects, Saraf Eugene Taylor, 51, of Portsmouth, and Emily Miles, 25, of Windsor, occupied the vehicle. Both were taken into custody and face burglary and narcotics charges.

According to the sheriff’s office, a third suspect and the driver of the vehicle, Rodger Dale Newelle III, 42, of Suffolk, fled on foot before deputies arrived.

Newelle was later seen in the 2500 block of Bridge Road. Deputies, with assistance from the Suffolk Police Department, searched the area and established a perimeter. However, after several hours of extensive searching, the effort was terminated without locating Newelle.

Rodger Dale Newelle III is also wanted for failure to appear on assault and battery charges from a previous incident. He now faces additional charges stemming from today’s incident, including felony burglary, felony conspiracy, and felony destruction of property. Newelle’s last known address is on Nansemond Parkway in Suffolk.

Authorities urge anyone with information on Newelle’s whereabouts not to approach him.
