Councilman David Adams raised the subject of the foot bridge located along North Court Street during the Tuesday, Jan. 14, Windsor Town Council meeting. He is hoping to see the structure repaired.
He noted to Windsor Town Manager William Saunders that the bridge has been in a broken-down state for a while.
“Is that within our purview to fix, or is that the county?” Adams said.
Saunders said it is kind of a gray area.
“It was a county project, and (Virginia Department of Transportation) VDOT was going to maintain that,” the town manager said. “We typically maintain the sidewalks in town, and we replaced some of the boards when it was just a board here and there, but it looks like there’s more than just a board here and there now. It may be some stringers in that one spot.”
Oxford Languages defines a stringer as a longitudinal (running lengthwise) structural piece in a framework.
Saunders said the town is going to see if VDOT can address the condition of the foot bridge.
Adams asked if there is any safety concern for people walking on the structure, and Saunders noted that this concern is present only in the portion delineated by cones and tape.
“The cones and tape are keeping people off the trouble spot for the time being,” Saunders said.
But he indicated that the level of repair now required at the foot bridge is more than the town wants to entertain.
“We’re going to see if VDOT can take that back…,” Saunders said.
