The Windsor Town Council recently approved the purchase of two mobile data terminals for the Windsor Police Department.

Town Manager William Saunders noted during the council’s Nov. 12 meeting that the WPD needed two laptop computers.

In a memorandum to the mayor and Town Council, he said that one is a replacement of an obsolete laptop with broken ports. The second is to outfit a newly hired part-time officer with a laptop. 

Saunders stated that the total cost of the two Win11 Pro, I-5 laptops is $4,515.52. One will be funded for $2,257.76 from the Police Computer and Technology line item in the town’s budget, and he noted it was recommended that the other be funded for a matching amount from the Contingency line item.

“Therefore, it is recommended that $2,257.76 be transferred from the Contingency line item to the Police Computer and Technology line item of the General Fund,” he said. 

Councilman Walter Bernacki asked Windsor Police Chief Rodney “Dan” Riddle, who was present at the meeting, if the laptops needed were the car-mounted units.

“These are the mobile data terminals,” Riddle said.

Shortly after they discussed a couple more technical details about the computers, Bernacki said, “I make a motion we approve the purchase and the associated transfer necessary to get the two police laptops.”

Councilman Edward “Gibbie” Dowdy seconded the motion, and it passed with a 3-0 vote. There were only three votes cast because Vice Mayor J. Randy Carr, Councilman Jake Redd and Councilman David Adams were not present for the meeting.
