Windsor Mayor George Stubbs shared details Tuesday, Oct. 8, with the Windsor Town Council regarding plans being made for the 2024 Windsor Christmas Parade, including the extension of its route.

“The (Town of Windsor) Events Committee has been working on — very diligently — a Christmas Parade for Dec. 7,” he said.

He noted that fliers are already online and at businesses in town.

The flier found on the Town of Windsor, Virginia, Facebook page notes that the town is presenting Windsor Wonderland on Saturday, Dec. 7, with the parade beginning at 4 p.m. followed by an indoor Christmas Market with activities, food and vendors at Windsor Town Center that concludes at 8 p.m.

Stubbs said, “The (parade) route this year has been extended from Shirley Drive, Holland Drive … to Roberts Avenue down Church Street, Church Street to Duke (Street), down Duke Street to A Street, down A Street to (North) Court Street, North Court Street to Georgie Tyler Middle School.”

He noted that the review stand will be at Wesley F. Garris Event Park, located at 18 Duke St.

“Anyone that wishes to participate (in Windsor Wonderland), there has been correspondence mailed out to the churches all the way up I think it’s to Zuni,” he said. “We started in a six-mile radius, and we extended it out going all the way as far as Zuni. I think that put us at like 11.3 (miles) or something like that.”

He said the Events Committee has reached out to area schools to invite their bands to participate in the parade, and he indicated that he has personally reached out to the Khedive Temple.

Miniature race cars are part of the Khedive Temple’s parade units, and Stubbs said a gentleman that lives locally has one of these cars.

“I have spoken with him,” Stubbs said. “He’s going to see what they can do. When I talked with him, there were four parades already requesting for Khedive Temple for the same date. So anyway, I called and left my information on their phone recording voicemail. I have not gotten a call back yet.”

The mayor noted that the Events Committee is looking for and in need of volunteers to help facilitate the parade and Christmas festivities overall.

The Google document available via a link in the Sept. 30 post on the town’s Facebook page includes a registration form for those interested in participating on Dec. 7 as either an event volunteer, parade judge, market vendor and/or parade participant.

The document states that all interested parties should submit a registration form — and payment, if applicable — no later than Monday, Dec. 2. The document added that all entries will need approval from the Town of Windsor Events Committee, and approvals will be sent via email no later than two weeks upon submission.
