Beginning Tuesday, June 25, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close a portion of Route 646 (Garrison Drive) for a bridge replacement over Burnt Mills Swamp near Windsor in Isle of Wight County.

According to a release from VDOT, Route 646 (Garrison Drive) will be inaccessible to through traffic between Route 645 (Tar Road) and Route 638 (Cut Thru Road). Detours will be marked. Motorists traveling north on Route 638 (Cut Thru Road) at Garrison Drive should continue straight on Route 638 (Cut Thru Road), merge left onto Route 638 (Clydesdale Drive), turn left onto Route 258 (Courthouse Highway), and then turn left on Route 645 (Tar Road) to reach Route 646 (Garrison Drive). Southbound motorists from Route 646 (Garrison Drive) will follow the same detour in reverse.

Access to private properties on Route 646 will remain available at all times.

The project is expected to be completed by fall 2024, but the schedule is subject to change depending on weather and other factors.
