Isle of Wight County’s Board of Supervisors unanimously elected Joel Acree to succeed William McCarty as chairman at its Jan. 4 reorganizational meeting.

Acree, who’s held the Windsor-centric District 4 seat on the board since 2016, previously was chairman in 2020 and most recently served as vice chairman under McCarty.

The board then voted unanimously to elect Don Rosie in Acree’s place as vice chairman for 2024. Rosie, a board member since 2018, represents the Carrsville-centric District 5 seat.

Renee Rountree, who was elected in November to the Smithfield-centric District 1 seat, will succeed her predecessor, Dick Grice, on the supervisors’ capital improvements and community development committees, intergovernmental water and sewer task force, Smithfield intergovernmental relations committee and stormwater advisory committee. Citing her past experience in human resources, Rountree also offered and received the board’s unanimous vote to succeed Acree on the personnel committee.

Rountree also succeeds Grice in Isle of Wight’s seat on the Hampton Roads Alliance, Hampton Roads Workforce Council, Western Tidewater Water Authority and the Eastern Virginia Regional Industrial Facility Authority, or EVRIFA, which Isle of Wight joined in 2020.
