Rose Carolyn Rawles Jones, 81, of Windsor, Virginia died peacefully surrounded by her family on November 18, 2023. Carolyn was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years William L. ‘Buck’ Jones, her daughter Jennifer Jones Gore, her parents Richard H. Rawles, Jr. and Zella Rose Rawles, and a sister, Peggy Rawles Syndergaard. Left to cherish her memory are her son, William ‘Will’ F. Jones (Amy Hughes), her daughter Patricia ‘Patty’ Jones Vaught (Richard), her grandchildren Ethan and Ava Jones, Chase and Austin Gore, Chelsea and Whitlee Hughes, one great-grandchild, brothers- and sisters-in-laws Dr. Lawrence and Carolyn Kyle and James ‘Fuzzy’ and Carol Jones, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Carolyn was born on June 29, 1942 in Franklin, Virginia, was raised in Carrsville, Virginia, and graduated from Windsor High School. Carolyn and her husband Buck started and managed W. L. Jones Electric and Plumbing Company, successfully serving the area for over 42 years. Carolyn loved to be with her grandchildren, have a laugh, tell a funny story, go fishing, and have a good meal. She was an active member of the Windsor Congregational Christian Church. Carolyn enjoyed her lifelong Windsor and Virginia Avenue friends, her Sunday ladies’ lunches, Friday night dinners with friends and family, her Wednesday Burger King lunch bunch, and her Suffolk YMCA swim class. She supported the community schools, sports, and town events for over 60 years. Despite humble beginnings, Carolyn and her husband Buck shared many adventures together, traveling to Alaska, Hawaii, most U.S. states, Caribbean cruises, and European trips.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 3, 2023, at the Windsor Congregational Christian Church, with Rev. Sam Askew officiating. Burial will be private at Windsor Cemetery.
