Fatal crash leads to death of Windsor man

A two-vehicle crash in Isle of Wight County on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 19, resulted in the death of a Windsor man.
The Virginia State Police stated in a Monday afternoon, Aug. 21, news release that troopers were investigating a crash that occurred Saturday at 1:58 p.m. on Central Hill Road, less than a mile west of Whispering Pines Trail.
A 2016 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was eastbound and a 2014 Jeep Cherokee was westbound on Central Hill Road, the release stated. Police said that as the two vehicles came into a curve at the same time, they sideswiped each other along the centerline.
The release stated that the impact reportedly caused the motorcycle to run off the left side of the road and strike a utility pole.
The motorcyclist, Richard A. Wells, 71, of Windsor, was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene, police said.
The driver of the Jeep, Alton R. Jewell, 84, of Ivor, was not injured in the crash, the release stated.
Police said that Wells was wearing a helmet, and Jewell was wearing a seat belt.
The release concluded by noting that the crash remains under investigation.
