A Newport News man has been charged with killing a Williamsburg teenager and leaving her body in Isle of Wight County.
Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office investigators, with the assistance of the Newport News Police Department, arrested Andarius McClelland on Jan. 17.
Eighteen-year-old Aonesty Selby was found dead on a dirt logging path in a remote area of the county off Blue Ridge Road, roughly one-and-a-half miles outside the town limits of Windsor, on Jan. 13. According to Capt. Tommy Potter, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the scene around 9:30 that evening after a reported sighting of a deceased female.
The state medical examiner’s office in Norfolk determined the cause of death to be a single gunshot wound.
Selby’s family had reported her missing earlier Friday after telling police they’d not heard from her since Jan. 11. Investigators initially treated the incident as a “suspicious death.” Selby had turned 18 on Jan. 10 and is believed to have been “in the company of several individuals just before her death,” according to the press release.
McClelland, according to a Sheriff’s Office press release, was arrested peacefully at an apartment he shares with his brother in the 12000 block of Jefferson Avenue in Newport News. He was being transported by investigators to the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office for processing.
McClelland has been charged with second-degree murder and use or display of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
