Windsor sports roundup: Dukes stay undefeated on links

The Windsor High School varsity golf team won by its largest margin yet Wednesday, Aug. 24, at Cypress Creek Golfers’ Club in Smithfield.
The undefeated Dukes produced a nine-hole team score of 169, putting them 42 strokes ahead of their nearest competition. Greensville County High School came in second with a score of 211, Appomattox Regional Governor’s School shot a 248, Sussex Central High School also shot a 248, Southampton High School recorded a 249 and Franklin High School generated a 252.
Individually, junior Benjamin Beale led the Dukes with a score of 38. Windsor sophomore Lucas Patterson shot a 41, junior Aidan Dickinson registered a 43 and senior Carson Pierce produced a 47.
The Dukes improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the Tri-Rivers District.
In Wednesday’s cross country meet at Franklin, Windsor senior Chloe Griffin finished second in the girls competition, and Dukes freshman Ethan Brinkley-Sawyer finished fifth in the boys event.
On Tuesday, Aug. 23, Windsor’s varsity girls volleyball team fell in its season opener 25-16, 25-23, 25-23 to host Northampton High School. However, Windsor’s junior varsity team prevailed 25-12, 25-23 against Northampton.
