Windsor High School’s varsity girls basketball team faced host No. 1 Greensville County High School on Feb. 15 in the Tri-Rivers District Tournament championship game, and the No. 2 Lady Dukes fought hard but ultimately fell 54-51.
Wilhelm Johns, Windsor’s head coach, summed up the deciding factors in the game when he said, “We got in foul trouble and missed free throws.”
Leading the Lady Dukes statistically on the night were senior point guard Tseday Brown, with 19 points, 10 rebounds and five steals, and sophomore center Shamyah Stephenson, with 18 points and eight rebounds.
The season is not over for the resurgent Lady Dukes, who will begin play in the Region 2A Tournament next week as the No. 3 seed. Johns said they will not know who their opponent is until after the evening of Feb. 18.
Windsor (17-4) will be the home team in its regional opener Feb. 22, and game time is set for 6 p.m.
