James Russell Johnson, 75, died Jan. 29, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Dorothy and Gordon Johnson. James was loved by his family and will be greatly missed.

James was retired from the Navy after 20 years and served during the Vietnam War. James was an avid sports fan, in his younger years he enjoyed and participated in all sports, but golf was by far his favorite.

He is survived by his wife, June; children, Kevin Johnson (Teresa), Deborah Volek (Martin), Jeanette MacDonald and Scott Johnson; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerry Johnson (Peggy) and John Johnson.

A memorial service with military honors will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, by Pastor John Hunter at the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, Downtown Chapel, 509 W. Washington Street, Suffolk, VA 23434.
