Isle of Wight County School Board member Vicky Hulick announced on July 6 that she plans to step down from her elected role come mid to late August.
She and her family will be moving from Carrollton to Smithfield and as such, she will no longer be able to serve as the Board’s Newport District representative due to living outside that district’s boundaries.
Hulick, a former science teacher, was first elected to the Board in November 2015, taking office on Jan. 1, 2016. As her current term does not expire until Dec. 31, 2023, a special election will be held on a future date to fill her seat.
“I have served on the board for almost 6 years and proudly done so representing the Newport district,” she wrote on her Newport District School Board Facebook page, highlighting accomplishments such as the debut of Isle of Wight County Schools in-house career and technical education program in 2017 and the ongoing plans to build a replacement Hardy Elementary School.
“I appreciate the support you have given me in the past and your support as we go forward in the future,” she added. “I will still be an Isle of Wight resident, and my children will be proudly attending our public school system. I will remain an active member of the community as I have always been.”
