To the editor:
The first weeks of the Biden administration have been America’s worst nightmare. Regardless of politics, how can anyone destroy thousands of jobs, destroy national energy independence, open the southern border to thousands of illegal aliens, effectively destroy women’s sports by allowing males who identify as female to compete in those sports, and that’s just the start. Anything you thought was sacred is on the woke liberal chopping block.
Our state is faring no better. The Democratic administration is in the process of legalizing
marijuana, enables those who wish to destroy the history of the state, continues to promote draconian infringements on our 2nd amendment rights, passes a bill mandating in school education — but doesn’t go into effect until July — and releases violent prisoners including individuals who murdered police officers.
Who are we kidding? Things have to change and the sooner the better.
In the Feb. 24 paper our county supervisor was attacked for his beliefs on gun rights. These beliefs are held by the majority of Southampton County residents and I would argue the vast majority of Virginians. The woke liberal battle cry “common sense gun control” is an oxymoron. Common sense is sorely missing in Richmond. Guns are tools, no more or no less than any other. What’s next? Are knives, axes, cars, tractor-trailers, airplanes, etc. going to face the same scrutiny? They have all been used as weapons. The right to bear arms is important enough to be enshrined in the 2nd amendment. “The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” Charlton Heston memorialized it when he said, “You can take my gun from my cold dead hand.” I’m proud to be a deplorable who clings to family, guns and religion.
What can we do? We need parents looking at our children’s school curriculum. Our Judaic-Christian values must be respected. We can no longer ignore affronts to appease the secular society.
Every liberal politician must be challenged. If you’re old enough to remember typing class, now known as keyboarding, there is a sentence you can’t forget; “Now is the time for all good men and women to come to the aid of their country.” It’s time to stand up and be involved. Change starts at the local and state level. The coming election is an opportunity we cannot afford to waste.
