Officers of American Legion Post 49 conducted a flag retirement ceremony on Oct, 10. Proper and respectful destruction of flags that have completed their useful life of service is an important function performed by the American Legion.

Annually, Post 49 ensures the proper disposal of any flags given to them following a respectful script and ceremony. VFW Post Commander Herb DeGroft attended as the representative for that organization. Any organization or individual having flags or flag paraphernalia — such as banners of the stars and stripes — can drop them off at the Post at 818 S. Church St. at any time in the outside box.
