Hearing set for IW school facility plan

Isle of Wight Public Schools will receive public comment on its annual capital improvement plan at the School Board’s regularly scheduled upcoming meeting at 6 p.m. Oct. 8 in the cafeteria of Smithfield High School.

The public may sign up to speak on the night of the meeting. Social distancing measures and masks are required at the meeting, which will also be broadcast live on the school division’s Facebook and YouTube pages.

Major items on the school division’s proposed 2021-2030 capital improvement plan include $28 million for additions and renovations to Westside Elementary, $22 million for additions and renovations to Hardy Elementary and $350,000 for roof replacement at Windsor High School.

The school division’s plan is then submitted to the Isle of Wight County Board of Supervisors for consideration for inclusion in the county’s capital improvement plan.
