Leyda Sanders feels like she has lost motivation since classes at her college transferred online. Sanders is a freshman studying Chemical Engineering at VCU. “I… feel stressed mainly because I feel like I’m always missing something; the sudden change to online was… no help.”

Sanders stated that in an attempt to help with this transition, VCU gave students an extra week of spring break and are allowing them to choose if their individual courses will be pass/fail.

Sanders misses her friends on campus a lot. “Even though we talk online, we don’t get [to laugh together] and go to my favorite on campus restaurant, which is Panda Express.” She said they made her college experience better and it has affected her not being able to see them in person anymore.

Sanders knows that even though it “sucks” being at home right now, people who choose to go out are adding to the problem. She stresses as well that people buying in bulk are making this time more complicated for those who live “paycheck to paycheck”.

She feels, appropriately, that healthcare workers need more recognition. “They are the one putting their lives on the line for strangers.”
