The number of COVID-19 outbreaks reported in the Virginia Department of Health’s Western Tidewater Health District rose overnight from 10 to 11. The latest is reported to be in a healthcare setting, which can refer to a hospital, doctor’s office or other medical facility.

While the VDH isn’t disclosing the location of this outbreak, it doesn’t appear to be in Isle of Wight County or the city of Franklin, both of which saw no change in their COVID-19 totals from Wednesday to Thursday.

Since the start of the pandemic, 46 healthcare workers have tested positive for the virus throughout the district, which includes all of Isle of Wight County, Southampton County and the cities of Franklin and Suffolk. According to Dr. Todd Wagner, director of the WTHD, that figure is not tied to any specific outbreak.

The VDH typically defines “outbreak” to mean two or more cases. Southampton County saw its reported case totals increase by three overnight Wednesday to Thursday, with Suffolk’s reported total increasing by five.
