I would like to thank all of the Board of Supervisors for their votes last night [Thursday, April 18]. Each one of you had the courage to stand up and be counted.

Chairman [William] McCarty, thank you for voting against the terms and for making the motion to rescind the original motion. You set the example for all to follow that it is OK to change your mind on an issue. It is a sad indictment on our society that some people felt the need to go so far as to harass your children. Unfortunately, these people are probably not strong enough to stand up and apologize to and your family. You have my apology for their out-of-bounds behavior.

Thank you, Mr. [Don] Rosie, for your very heartfelt comments before the vote.

Thank you, Mr. Dick Holland, for your dedication and commitment to the community by not only spending your time and energy, but for also stepping up to the plate and spending over $800 of your own money on the Freedom of Information Act request. And thank you to the numerous others who spent their money, time and energy and stayed the course even when the outcome did not look favorable.

Thank you to the Windsor Weekly and The Tidewater News for your continued unbiased coverage of this important issue.

Now it is time to put this behind us and bring the county back together and work together for the benefit of all. Remember, reasonable people can agree to disagree.
