Although the threat of Hurricane Florence last week blew away any chance for carnival rides, country music and a demolition derby (snaps fingers,) there’s still another opportunity to experience a major part of what makes up such a fair.
No, the event has not suddenly been resurrected.
Instead, members of the 4-H organization will still get to showcase their critters this Sunday. And isn’t livestock part and parcel of what makes a county fair?
Starting at 10 a.m., the young members will present heifers, rabbits, poultry, goats and feeder pigs for show. It’s a new chance for these future farmers to proudly show how well they’ve managed such animals.
There’s no charge for admission, just bring your a lawn chair and your own lunch and snacks.
Kudos to the Isle of Wight Extension Service for pushing through with this feature.
Granted, the scene might not be as exciting as a rodeo, but we think it’s one to support with your presence.
