Say ‘Yes’ to the Dress: This is a Relay For Life fundraiser by Team WES Soaring for the Cure. The event starts at 9 a.m. in Westside Elementary School, 800 W. Main St., Smithfield. Over 100 gowns and dresses appropriate for proms, weddings, social events will be available and each costs $20. Accessories and shoes also available. Cash or checks accepted.

Wakefield Ruritan Club Bash/BBQ and Shad Homecoming: Join us from 3 to 8 p.m. for fun, food and entertainment. This year’s event will host various children’s activities, display with the history of the Wakefield Ruritans and Shad Planking, cornhole tournament, a live band, BBQ and Shad, raffle with with four prizes and a beer truck.

Spring BBQ: The Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual fundraiser. Reduced cost advance meal tickets are now available at selected business locations in Carrollton and Smithfield. VT coaches dinner with Bud Foster: The Western Tidewater Hokie Club will be sponsoring its 20th Orange and Maroon Coaches Tour in the Smithfield Center. Defensive Coordinator Bud Foster and Christian Webster, the new assistant basketball coach, will be the guests. Dinner will be catered by the Virginia Diner with a social hour at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $35 per person and can be purchased by calling Bentley Richardson at 242-6606, or mailing a check to Hazel Spady, P.O. The Franklin area Parkinson’s Support Group: The group will meet in the Village at Wood’s Edge in the Great Room at 6:30 p.m. for a session led by Village staff on nutrition and medicine. Book sale: The Friends of the Smithfield Library are having a public book sale from 3 to 8 p.m. The sale continues Thursday through Saturday during library hours. Bethlehem Jam: The Ocean Breeze Band perform from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Bethlehem Ruritan Club House, 140 Manning Rd. Suffolk. Free College and Career Fair: A free Career and College Fair is set for Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Paul D. Camp Community College Hobbs Campus, 271 Kenyon Road, Suffolk. Meet and talk to professionals from a wide variety of colleges and career pathways including business, communications, healthcare, hospitality manufacturing and transportation. World-Famous ChickAQue: Meal features one-half barbecue chicken, baked beans, cole slaw and roll for $9 per plate. Desserts sold separately. Spring Craft Fair: The Woman’s Club of Windsor is sponsoring its sixth annual event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Windsor Community House, 14 Community Drive. Vendors will include Tupperware, cemetery flower arrangements, Perfectly Post, crochet hems, handmade jewelry, Origami Owl, Scentsy, Lilla Rose, bottle art, home décor, Lula Roe, glass art, embroidery, Pampered Chef, Paparazzi Jewelry. For lunch, homemade chicken sale and pimento cheese will be sold as sandwiches and in bulk. A bake sale and raffles will also be featured. Admission is free.

Western Tidewater Master Gardeners Second Annual Plant Sale: This will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carrollton Library, 14362 New Towne Haven Lane. Plants available, but not limited to, will include natives, annuals, herbs, host, shrubs, trees, perennials, nectar/pollinator and vegetables. Sunday, May 6 will be the rain date. Flower and art show: The Historic Wakefield Foundation presents its 31st annual Flower and Art Show on through Friday, May 18. This year’s show will feature the work of more than 70 artist,s each artwork accompanied by a floral arrangement designed to produce a unified, harmonious display. The Gala Opening Reception will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission will be $10 per person. The reception will feature heavy hors-d’oeuvres and live musical entertainment by pianist Nan Seeley. The exhibit will be open on Sunday, May 6. Admission to this day will be by donation and the exhibit will be open from noon to 4 p.m. The exhibit and building will be open on the following times and days afterward: Monday, 1 to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Friday, noon to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday by appointment.
